The “fly away” series is the consequence of a further exploration of cultural union as a part of the “new wings” collection. In this series, the patterns from those diverse cultures are woven together into deeper, more intricate compositions. It is also heavily influenced by the indian heritage of Lavina, using the paisley pattern. “Fly away” is an expression of freedom – after conquering the impossible, we are ready to go on without losing enthusiasm for life.

Back in 2015, artist and textile designer Lavina Peswani started exploring the lives of four astonishing women and from this creative journey “New Wings” came to be: Bibi Aisha (Afghanistan), Immaculée Ilibagiza (Rwanda), Anuradha Koirala (Nepal) and the sheroes of India spread their wings in brave colours. Each story is a testament to the power of unstoppable women who overcame great difficulties and thrived against all odds in cruel and hopeless circumstances.
By blending them together in one series, Lavina wanted to emphasise the power of humanity and cultural union. Within us all lies an extraordinary capacity to overcome anything and this limitless strength is what brings us closer, regardless of religion and cultural background.
